Dance Teacher Profile – Sophie Fitzwilliam

Sophie FitzwilliamSophie started dancing at the age of 4 in her hometown of Wellingborough at Kilburn School of dance, here she trained in RAD ballet up to Grade 8 and advanced 1 and ISTD Modern, Tap, Classical Greek and National achieving Advanced 2 for all of these.

As a student at Kilburn school of dance Sophie competed in festivals all over the country including the biannual All England Dance Finals in London Obtaining many medals for all competitions. Sophie has also competed in the Classical Greek finals and the Gradison Clark finals, receiving awards for solos, duets, trios and groups and Ruby Ginner winning senior championship award, she also has competed at Janet cram. Kilburn was selected on 3 occasions to perform at the BBC dance proms hosted at the Royal Albert hall, Sophie had the privilege to perform on all occasions. In Sophie’s last year of competing she won the bursary at Northampton Festival.

When Sophie’s Studies at school and Kilburn came to an end, she auditioned for further training in the arts at London dance schools. She was accepted to the prestigious London Studio Centre which is where she chose to further her training in the performing arts and gained a First class BA hons degree in Theatre Dance graduating in July 2017. In her third year at London Studio Centre, Sophie joined the Seedtime Company to specialize in musical theatre. Seedtime was directed by Matthew Shaw who undersaw all singing and management throughout the year. Sophie worked with Norma Attallah, Greg Davidson, Susanne Raasay and Stuart Rogers just name a few. Sophie Successfully gained agent representation in her third year who is helping her audition for jobs within the industry so that she can for fill her love of performing.

Another passion of Sophie’s has always been teaching, from a much younger age she started by assisting the younger ballet grades at Kilburn School of Dancing, then when at a more senior age she would cover classes for the intermediate and junior ages and jazz and stretch classes for all ages. Sophie also taught adult ballet and adult tap before moving to London to study at London studio centre. Whilst training in London Sophie continued to teach at Kilburn at weekends and in the holidays when needed, she was a singing teacher up to intermediate level and she also taught ballet and jazz at London studio centre for the junior associates programme. So far Sophie has completed her DDI for national dance and is excited to further her training and work towards gaining more. Sophie is absolutely delighted to be joining the extremely hardworking and enthusiastic team at Hayley Nadine and is excited to see the already talented children grow even more.
